Local configuration

Hopvane requires no account. Monitoring settings, expected network values, named profiles, and notification preferences are stored locally on your Mac.

The recent-events timeline is kept in memory. Status-change alerts use local macOS notifications.

Network checks

Public IPv4 and IPv6 checks contact the probe hosts configured in Hopvane. These requests necessarily reveal your apparent source IP address to the selected probe provider. You can change the probe hosts in Settings, including using endpoints you trust or operate yourself.

Optional reachability checks open a TCP connection to the host and port you configure. DNS-resolver and default-route checks read macOS system configuration locally.

Optional network helper

The Developer ID edition can use an optional privileged helper for its disabled-by-default network kill switch. Installing or removing the helper is an explicit action that asks for administrator approval.

The helper accepts only narrowly defined status and route-blocking operations. It does not receive arbitrary shell commands, probe results, or monitoring history.
